Promoting Healthy Eating Habits For Young Children Is Essential

By teaching your children healthy eating habits, and modelling these behaviours in yourself, you will enable your child to lead a healthy life style in years to come.

As a young child, my mother was vigilant about healthy eating habits and this was passed onto my daughters. My mother had a vegetable garden with rows of home grown vegetables and nearby was apricot and mulberry trees.

We loved pulling up carrots, spinach, cabbages, spinach, radishes and many more vegetables for our supper every evening as well as picking fresh, ripe fruits for dessert.

Children learn by example

Colourful and crunchy fruit and vegetables are an important and enjoyable part of your child’s diet. Both vegetables and fruit contain essential nutrients that are important for their health, growth and development. If you eat and enjoy fruit and vegetables together with your children every day they will usually follow your example.

Tips

  • Plant a vegetable garden.
  • Go to a nursery with your child to choose packets of vegetable seeds or seedlings.
  • Plant the seeds or seedlings with your child.
  • Allow your child to water and nurture the vegetables and watch them grow.
  • Pick the fruits and vegetables with your child and enjoy the healthy benefits!
